Plastic greenhouse bench tops are a direct replacement for the wood, wire and expanded metal surfaces on greenhouse bench frames. Panels are molded from UV-protected polypropylene and interlock along their long edge to form a continuous, flat growing surface at any bench length. Sold in packs of 5 in two sizes: 24″ x 48″ and 18″ x 36″.
Panels install on metal, wood, vinyl or pipe frames using screws or pop rivets, so an existing frame can be re-decked without rebuilding it. The positive interlocking edge requires no clips or wire ties.
Because polypropylene is inorganic and non-porous, the surface will not support mold or fungus growth and will not rust, rot or decay. Panels tolerate both extreme heat and freezing temperatures without becoming brittle, and will not sag when supported at the spacing listed below.

How many packs do I need?
Work in linear feet of bench, then convert to packs.
24″ x 48″ panels — 40 sq ft per pack
- 4′ wide bench: each panel spans the full width and covers 2 linear feet. One pack covers 10 linear feet.
- 2′ wide bench: each panel runs lengthwise and covers 4 linear feet. One pack covers 20 linear feet.
- 6′ wide bench: three panels span the width. One pack covers 3.3 linear feet — order in multiples of 3 per row.
18″ x 36″ panels — 22.5 sq ft per pack
- 3′ wide bench: each panel spans the full width and covers 1.5 linear feet. One pack covers 7.5 linear feet.
- 18″ wide bench: each panel runs lengthwise and covers 3 linear feet. One pack covers 15 linear feet.
Quick method for any layout: multiply bench length by width in feet, then divide by 40 (24″ x 48″) or 22.5 (18″ x 36″) and round up. Order a spare panel or two on longer runs — panels can be cut to finish an odd-length bench, and having extras avoids a second shipping charge.
Installation
- Confirm your cross support spacing matches the panel size: every 24″ for 24″ x 48″ panels, every 18″ for 18″ x 36″ panels. Add supports if existing spacing is wider — inadequate support is the most common cause of panel deflection. Full specification guidance is in our guide to greenhouse bench design.
- Set the first panel at one end of the bench, square to the frame.
- Engage the interlocking edge of the next panel and press down until seated. No clips required.
- Fasten panels to the frame with stainless steel screws or pop rivets through the panel into the cross supports.
- Continue down the run. Cut the final panel to length with a fine-tooth blade if needed.
Use stainless steel fasteners in greenhouse environments; plated screws will corrode in high humidity.

Does this include the bench frame?
No. These are bench top panels only, and install onto an existing or new frame of metal, wood, vinyl or pipe.
How far apart do the supports need to be?
It depends on panel size. The 24″ x 48″ panel requires supports every 24″; the 18″ x 36″ panel requires supports every 18″. These figures assume flats and pots under 3 gallon — heavier loads or larger containers need closer spacing.
Do I need clips to connect the panels?
No. Panels interlock directly along their long edge. Nothing additional is required.
Can the panels be cut to fit?
Yes. They cut cleanly with a fine-tooth blade to finish odd bench lengths or fit around posts.
Will the panels sag?
Not when supported at the correct spacing for the panel size and loaded appropriately. Deflection is almost always a support-spacing problem rather than a panel problem.
Can I use them under benches?
Yes. Panels are commonly installed as a lower shelf on existing frames to add storage or overflow space.
Are they safe to handle?
Yes. Molded edges eliminate the sharp edges and protruding wire ends found on expanded metal and wire tops.
Can they be reused if I reconfigure my benches?
Yes. Panels unscrew and relocate, unlike expanded metal that has been cut to fit.
Which size should I choose?
The 24″ x 48″ is the standard choice for most 2′, 4′ and 6′ benches. The 18″ x 36″ suits narrow benches, propagation areas and 3′ wide frames — but note it requires closer support spacing.
