Overview

We seek a versatile Electrical Engineer to lead innovation in environmental controls and motor drive systems for the agriculture and horticulture industry. This is a hands-on role where you will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from research and design to development. As the primary AutoCAD operator, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining CAD drawings for both electrical schematics and non-electrical components (greenhouse hardware, including frames, extrusions, plates, and brackets). You will also coordinate with project teams, provide staff training, and manage external drafting resources as needed to support project timelines.

Primary Responsibilities

Engineering & Product Development

  • Research and develop electro-mechanical products per the product development plan.
  • Evaluate and improve existing products based on customer needs and production challenges.
  • Coordinate engineering teams, consultants, and contractors to meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Conduct experiments to address theoretical, mechanical, and material challenges.
  • Analyze and test prototypes for performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Support Manufacturing in developing processes, tooling, and molds.
  • Train Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Tech Support on new products.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex customer issues, providing support to our internal team and, when necessary, to customers directly via phone or email.

Electrical Design

  • Design and develop PCBs and electrical products, creating and testing prototypes.
  • Develop test requirements and specialized equipment to verify product reliability.
  • Create blueprints for wiring and equipment placement.
  • Perform hands-on tasks: measuring, cutting, assembling, stripping, splicing, and soldering.

CAD & Technical Documentation

  • Use CAD software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Electrical) to create 2D/3D drawings, including schematics, layouts, and non-electrical designs such as greenhouse frames, extrusions, plates, and brackets.
  • Render product concepts from sketches, recommending design solutions.
  • Prepare bills of materials, engineering change notices, and production instructions.
  • Create detailed illustrations for manuals (block diagrams, schematics, 3D perspectives).
  • Develop drawings for tools, fixtures, and test equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Associate degree in Electronics or related field with 2-3 years in industrial controls, or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in electronic principles (Ohm’s Law, schematics, circuit components).
    • Skilled with test equipment (multimeters, power supplies) and hand/power tools.
    • Manual skills for soldering, PCB repair, and chassis wiring.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD/Autodesk Electrical for drafting, including non-electrical CAD designs.
    • Basic competence in Microsoft Office.
  • Leadership: Ability to coordinate teams, manage timelines, and ensure budget compliance.
  • Communication: Strong skills to train staff and document processes.
  • Work Style: Independent, decisive, adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Demands: Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Warehouse, electronics workroom, or office; protective equipment required.
  • Travel: Minimal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PLC programming experience.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC motors, motor controls, relays, contactors, and HVAC controls.
  • Familiarity with 3-phase power systems.
  • Agricultural or greenhouse experience.
  • Ability to write technical manuals.
  • Experience with RF, LoRaWAN, IoT, PLC, embedded controls, C++, and Linux.
