FAQ
How often should I replace my plug-in relays?

We recommend replacing the plug-in relays in your controller every 2–3 years. Relays are mechanical parts that wear out over time, especially vent relays that cycle frequently. We also suggest replacing them in pairs (the open relay and the close relay for the same vent) and writing the month and year of installation on the relay or inside the controller for easy tracking.

What controllers do these relays work on?

Our standard 24V DC plug-in relays are compatible with the following controllers:

  • VCU
  • AegisTEC
  • AegisTEC+
What do relays do?

Relays act as switches inside your controller. When the controller decides a device should turn on (such as a vent motor, curtain motor, or an external contactor box), it sends a small 24V DC signal to the relay. The relay then “clicks” on, closing its internal contacts.

This allows the controller to safely control high-current loads (motors, fans, heaters, etc.) by sending signals to external contactor boxes like the ECO1150 or CB4. Relays can also receive low-voltage signals (such as dry contacts from external devices). In every case, the relay is what lets the controller control various equipment.
